Event Recap: Denver Democracy Summit
The Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas (DDIA) was honored to participate in the Denver Democracy Summit, hosted by the University of Denver’s Korbel School of International Studies. This prestigious event brought together global leaders, scholars, policymakers, and advocates to discuss the challenges facing democracy worldwide and explore actionable solutions to safeguard democratic institutions.
Among the event’s key topics were the impacts of disinformation on democratic processes, the role of technology in shaping the information landscape, and the importance of civic engagement in resisting authoritarianism. Notable panels included discussions on the state of democracy in Europe and Ukraine, migration and its ties to democratic governance, and the critical intersection of mis/disinformation and democracy.
Roberta Braga, Executive Director of DDIA, contributed her insights as a panelist during the discussion on Mis/Disinformation & Democracy. Joined by speakers such as Mark Scott, Senior Resident Fellow, Digital Forensic Research Lab’s Democracy & Tech Initiative at The Atlantic Council, and moderated by Graham Brookie, VP for Technology and Strategy at the Atlantic Council, the session highlighted the scale of disinformation, its implications for democratic resilience, and strategies to combat its spread while preserving free expression.
The Denver Democracy Summit served as an invaluable platform for cross-sector collaboration and the exchange of innovative ideas, reaffirming the commitment to defending democratic values in the face of global challenges.
