On Wednesday, July 30, TikTok launched its Footnotes content moderation program in the United States. At the launch event in New York City, Founder and Executive Director Roberta Braga shared the Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas's latest recommendations for improving the efficacy of community-driven content moderation systems based on lessons learned from our deep dive into X's Community Notes program, led by Cristina Tardáguila and Marcelo Soares.
Alongside TikTok's Victoria McCullough, Adam Presser, Erica Ruzic and Suzy Loftus, DDIA weighed in with civil society feedback, researcher insights, and broad-based discussions around practical ways for building a healthier experience for U.S. users on TikTok.
DDIA shared the stage with Angie Drobnic Holan of the International Fact-Checking Network.
